Time cast hour glass shadows across the floor
Grandma’s bedsheets cover the looking glass
The sun’s rays bounce across my Mother’s hands
Tanned hands that once held dew fresh dreams
The wheel o f life turns dreams into faded memories
Long forgotten names of once familiar faces
Faces that now stare at me from dust covered frames
I follow Mother from room to dusty room
Here in Grand ma’s bedroom, I still smell the lavender
Age grayed lace doilies still stretch across the dressers
In the drawers, he r flannel nightgowns still neatly folded
Mother puts one up to her face and starts to cry
I brush the crystal drops off her sorrow-laden cheeks
Unspoken words between us that say so very much
Her heart weeps for the mother she has just lost
My heart weeps for the mother that I will soon lose
The movers will take Grandma’s things away tomorrow
Her house will be put up for sale in a few more days
Nothing will ever be the same from this day on
One era has closed, and with it has taken years of living
Arm in arm Mom and I walk out into the sunshine
I give her a quick hug and she smiles back at me
I see Grandmas blue eyes twinkling in Mom’s face
And she looks at me and says I have Grandma’s voice
