The Empty Rocking Chair

My grandparents empty farmhouse
after they had passed on

~ The Empty Rocking Chair ~

The old farmhouse is empty now
Worn and tired just like the plow
The roof shingles are wethered
too
There was a time when they were new

*

Noisy doors - hinges worn
Blowing wind - a sight forlorn
Broken windows where sunshine played
Its too bad - they could have stayed

*

Most everything is gone away
The swing where children used to play
There is one thing that they forgot
It moves about - "Forget me not"

*

There it is - its on the porch
Standing still all by itself
Rocking gently in the breeze
As if to say - "Won't you please"

*

The old farmhouse is empty now
Folks have long since gone
Left behind is the rocking chair
And memories of a silent song

Bob this is beautiful. It made me think of my Granny's house as a child. Thanks for the memories. Janet
