My friend in New Jersey has cancer and this is what he wants to do and have others do for him. Just think of the mountains in South America as you read this.

Cancer is taking my friend
Who lives in New Jersey;
He’s sticking it out to the end
And not asking, “Why me?”
His pain is so bad
That he pops pills every day
I find all this sad
But as a friend, what can I say?
Librium, valium, amatryptaline
Coffee and a vodka martini
Even something stronger: morphine.
He wishes a coffin to pull a Houdini
Yet not come back for an appearance
But just go away
He’s received heavenly clearance
To proceed to that day
Yet has all these plans to make
And work to finish
He’s asked I not be depressed for his sake
But I feel the needs to diminish
His pain and tell him all’s well.
On the phone he cried
Describing his pain
While his significant other can’t be pried
Away from the computer to share; it’s plain
To see he’s on his own for this journey
With me miles away and no help at all
Except my still, small voice bringing him eternity
So his suffering will end and there will be no pall
When he finally succumbs and I carry a part
Of the handle on his casket after the call
And five others assist me to place his heart
And soul where he wants to be buried
Among mountains on green grass that grows tall
And the air is thin and he will be married
To the soil from which he came and we six shall stall
Until he’s on the other side where he needs to be
Spending his time with father and God eternally.

George you are a wonderful friend. Cancer has to be the worst to suffer with as I watched my dad whither away in pain, I prayed that God above have mercy on him and take him home. Thank you for your words.

George your a true friend and your friend is blessed to have you as a friend. It is so sad when people die in pain from cancer makes me think of my dear friend who died of cancer, even though death is a new begining we as human beings still feel pain and only know this human life until we go on to be with God. Your friend soon will be in peace and in no pain.
Sending prayers

Your friend needs support. Death is cruel even if it not really the end of us. But we are tied to this world and pain is no joke. I hope he finds comfort frome the only One who can give it. My father died of cancer. I will always remember him crying knowing death is round the corner, but I also see him praying. He died peacefully, Victor

This heartfelt write brings to mind, when I sat with my mom as she was about to embark on her journey to the other side...she shared with me how much she was going to miss us all, and her friends. I made a suggestion to her that she should call her friends and tell them how much they meant to her and say goodbye...(her family was all here, by her side)
I sat with her for hours, there, next to my mom, listening to them laugh and cry and laugh and then...a few days later...she died.

I've thought about how much we all meant to her, as your friend has done for you...It is an honor George~ not only for what he has asked but for what you have given...
May God Bless you both and one day... you will meet again!
Love and Peace~
Kimmy~

I hope the Lord carries him home soon as we pray for him in his painful darkest hours. It is a comfort to him knowing he has a friend in his hour of need in you. God Bless both of you.

George, you have found the wonder of poetry. It sits right there within the eyes and heart of you and your friend. Friend. Seems to me, you are more than that to him now. You are a latter, a bridge to another world. One where he will take the memory of your love and not goodbyes but see you on the other side...friend.
Just a wonderful, wonderful piece. I am so proud of you!!!! Give him my prayers and tell him to have a happy journey on his next, not final, trip.

Such a sad write my friend, one that most everyone can relate to...it is so hard to loose someone we love too the vicious disease of cancer, it has no respect for whom it attacks...I lost one of my best friends ten years ago to cancer...I'll never forget how she touched my life in so many ways...I love to occasionally visit the graveside where her headstone resides...knowing deep within my heart that she has made it to the other side...where she suffers no more...my heart goes out to you and your friend!
Blessings,
Joyce B.

George, a deep and pensive write. Your friend, like so many others will some day come to the self realization that it's transition time. This is truly an emotional, but helpless kind of feeling in your write.

Peace,
Dan
