Come! come into the world with us,
Sweet little blossom sprung from a seed of love;
Come join with us from now, be hurled with us
Around about the splendid sun above.
Come unafraid, share fully life with us;
drink in flowers, feast on the moon afar;
absorb the aura, share joy and strife with us;
Walk moonlit paths, enjoy the evening star.
Feel music in your great and growing soul,
Sing sad or glad dictated by the need;
Take on your new-found part, assume your role,
But let it be of love and not of greed.
Come swim with us in lakes of lusty life;
Come join with us in questings made sublime
By hope whene'er you meet with pain and strife;
Ride with us on glorious tracks of time.
Come share with us the tentataive times ahead
Now you have ventured through fond Nature's gate
To our dear Earth whereto you have been led
To meet and match the might of Chance and Fate.

I wrote this poem in the 1970s to present to the mother of a new-born babe. We lost contact until...in 1993 she traced me to my present address and paid a visit to my home with her 20yo son, the subject of the poem. They handed me a photocopy of the original. I would now like to share it with YOU!

| "come swim with us in lakes of lusty life".. sigh..(I love alliteration). Jaysus, Patrick.. I get so involved in your words and thoughts.. and how you express them.. I'm sitting here in the library, weeping.. Perhaps when we are touched this deeply we shouldn't try to find the words.. but this poem touches all that makes me Katy. Thank you. |
