What is a "loner"? A social psychopath?
Maybe just one of the miriad of personality types among us. Let us see ...

By Myself
by Ted L Glines

Arriving in this world - so all alone;
my parents left - they simply went away,
I grew to learn my ethics from my play
and never faced a day with cry or moan,
for skills were seen as tools to gain and hone,
I never owned an empire or a day
and never envied you in any way,
for life's not guaranteed - it's just a loan.

No memories of love gone bad - or hate,
no goals or dreams to lead my soul astray,
no karma to enslave me when I'm dead,
no god to make me kneel - to prey and pay,
no wrongs to right - obsessions to abate;
my unimpeded path lies straight ahead.

A loner is not lonely on this day
for friends are everywhere to laugh and play,
and life is full of miracles and joy,
our world is like a giggle baby toy;
so happy by myself -- come what may.

Great job Ted. I agree that being alone doesn't mean being lonely. I love my own company!

right on Ted, I'm a lone ranger and proud of it, sometime the group can be a pain, great down to earth verse, take care

Thank you, good friends. Perhaps it is the process of empathy which creates the "loner" for he gains his enjoyment from the pleasures and successes experienced by those around him. Not at all self-centered, the true [and happy] loner is totally others-centered, and life [like you] is very precious :-)

I have no clue what its like...being one of 16, and having my crew...I could only imagine! Besides, even when alone, I feel I'm surrounded...*twilight zone music enters*

There's a significant difference between being alone and being lonely. You've covered it well in this keeper of a poem Ted. As a loner myself I attest to that.

One can be a loner surrounded by a million people, which is more better than be accompanied in life by, for no reason, hateful people.

The amazing part of being a loner is that it is often deceiving to those who don't know us for we may seem to be always in a crowd but in reality we waltz alone. Great write and welcome home.

Was for the most part an only child,
Apparently that made me quite a bit wild,
But someone had to be, all else were mild,
Usually started trouble, sat back and smiled...;-) Ed
