Beleive it or not it actually happened

The Day the Pole Came Down

Old Wyndham town is coming of age
They are opening the books on a brand new page
And digging great holes in all the roads
To bury the pipes for the sewage loads

Now they were working one day in front of my place
And the clouds of dust covered our window lace
When the arm of the digger reached for the sky
And caught the wire of our power supply

The concrete post snapped off at the ground
And over it fell with a sickening sound
Missing a truck by the smallest of measures
And damaging our house, our lawn, our treasures

The barge board split and broke right away
And dug into the lawn leaving live wires in play
Pointed to heaven we treated them with care
As we watched no children or animals came near

The contractor’s crew had a lucky escape
Then closed the road by cone and tape
Till the power men arrived with a brand new pole
And isolated the wire to calm my soul

Snow Geary’s boys were soon on the job
With new boards for the house I’m thinking a bob
Won’t cover the costs of needed repair
Of rotten boards hidden right under there

The contractor sent men to do what they can
The carpenters hammered and power men ran
Around in circles to replace the fallen wire
That the electrician connected before we retire

So if you think life in the country can be a bit slow
Come down to Wyndham and join our show
You do not need to go far to find the fun
That happens before our street race begun.
