This is how I would hope that someday human beings will come to respect our planet.

Oh great mountains who forever beckon me,
with your lofty peaks, from when time began.
Whose hand created your majestic beauty,
what answers do you have for man?

You who have stood silent through all time,
shaping our World with your awesome power.
Many are they who've yearned to learn your secrets,
from high snowy peaks to springs early flower.

Your silent tears flow ever downward to refresh us.
Yet, we have not learned to respect you.
You who hold the secret of the soaring eagle, and
the promise of serene meadows with early morning dew.

I have hiked and slept and partaken of your solitude,
restored my inner self next to your rushing waters.
Watched the fox and deer run in your forests,
had the joy of seeing your ever playful otters.

Grant me the power to use what you gave us wisely.
Teach me to live in harmony with my brother.
Help me to travel ever higher as you point the way,
striving to reach the clouds, loving one another.

And when my time is done, engulf me in some quiet valley.
Let me forever be thankful for your being.
Lying beside the rest of your great creatures,
sleeping peacefully, knowing that life had meaning.
