Another Rodeo
By La Belle Rouge

Now that Fanny Girl was a looker
though a mite long in the tooth
she had curly, bottle-yellow hair
a blue-eyed come and get me stare
that could shear a strong cowboy
of his pants, his money and truth

My cowboy Tex had a big ole gun
many a floozy had holstered tight
Reckoned I better keep late watch
over my saddle stiff steer that night
We was tired and broke as convicts
needin a bath and place to lay down
so we took a cheap room at a hotel
on the red tenderloin side of town

We was only two whoops and a holler
from the “Fandango” where she danced
Tex wanted to skeddadle on over there
after a bath and a little romance
I washed his back, I washed his front
and worked the stiffness outa his legs
I knew every gitty-up tormentin touch
to use until a cowboy cries and begs

Thought he’d be fit for the bone orchard
when I wound up my business with him
but damn if he won’t cowboy up
and ready to ride a wild mare again
I let out a few colorful cuss words
said “We gonna kill each other yet
So climb back up in the saddle
after I beat you with my paddle
for a rodeo you won’t never forget”

Well night was chasing sunset
and we was both almost buzzard food
He got dressed , strapped on his guns
put on his hat and worn leather boots
and said “Darlin, don’t mean to be rude
and I don’t know what you’ll think
but I’m thirsty as a desert coyote
need to get myself a cold drink
Headin over to the Red Fandango
be back quicker than a gambler’s wink”

That opening stanza is simply marvellous and holds and captivates...and the rest is equally good, wicked and naughty. I love this, I love it!
