Veiled
By La Belle Rouge

there is a veil, all souls employ
to hide the reality of identity
some dress in a shear covering
revealing to intent observers
the twisted structure beneath
others an obtuse, black canvas
where the light of scrutiny fails
to pierce through their disguise

I have given you small glimpses,
carefully measured revelations,
un-costumed moments of truth
the only time my soul was bare
my unclothed heart was beaten
and scarred from vicious stripes
who do we trust? who is honest?
who is benevolent, trustworthy?

who will be courageous enough
to look full into the eyes of pain
to wrap our nakedness in a cloak
of compassionate understanding
and appreciate the scars of love?
who will embrace hidden beauty
and un-confessed repulsiveness
that have made us who we are?

So fragile the heart
*La Belle* and carefully
handled when unveiled..
If mistreated, perhaps
in time scars fade...
becoming chantilly lace

This is truly stunning. The words alone are like a punch to the solar plexus and then you hit me with a devasting combination of illustration and perfect selection of music...as usual, I am amazed.

Veiled is how most of us live our lives. Like you say who can you trust to the bareness of your soul? Who can look pain in the eye. Few can and knowing this is sad and lonely. Who can you trust? Beautiful little revelation of your self. Love it. Liz

If poetry should be, then this be it, the deepest of a soulful heart expressed with such beauty, embroidered with wisdom and knowing, yes I too have ugly scars, and passed some on to others, but I believe as Victoria, and find no need to follow the foul crowd that for their own glory confess their true makeup to God knows who, if there be one without scars, he'd be a saint of some sort, or a con artist. Bless ya! Jasmin Horst

we all hide ourselves behind names that hide our real names-some choose to reveal who they really are-some like myself know that many would not like for me to write as I do-they would prefer that I write nice poems or sweet like all the time and yet behind a name I am free if you will to be the poet I was meant to be--I wish my life was better but for therapy reasons--LOL-I find poetry to be a stress releaser----well done La Belle

worse that we often hide truth behind a veil of pain and agony - we are all veiled creatures of our own making - wishing we were something we are not, wishing we were not something that we are - Belle, you know how to express it with such poetic grace - I wish you love and peace my dear friend - Jon Michael

this is so deeply beautiful La Belle, this speaks of The Lords Voice
(for me anyway) I was visualizing how he was battered, stoned, beat with whips...(those images of hate)
and then crucified for all sins, and yes even the pedophiles, rapist
murderers, violence, serial killers...everyone under the sun all for asking
...He knows everything, sees everything and loves anyway despite the sinners choices of sin
like we punish our children & still love them
He Will Cloak Us With His Divine Truth
...nothing on earth matters

we are all naked in his glorious eyes

Oh, this so powerful. Art, true art is sometimes born of pain and you have here revealed to us both.

Who indeed? And yet it is so wonderful to find the "who" and that is what real love (and true friendship) fulfill. Thank you, Belle. Love and best wishes,

Yes there are so many people who hide from the

Truth. Their truth, because reality is too painful to face

Only true light workers can bear their souls without

Hiding their truth. Bless your beautiful heart for this honest poem of

This is honesty and not many people are willing to
take off that veil, you are!

Very well done, so many hide behind a veil, portraying themselves as something they are not. You have to go from instinct, your intuition and see what your heart and soul tells you. If it don't feel right, probably taint right. This is in reference to others, not yourself.

For what reason you personally hide yourself t'is obvious in your writing if it is indeed about you and experiences. Then on this note others musts be willing to see the woman within and why she suffers so only allowing a few to see if they wish.

Wonderful write La Belle Rouge

I was finally that honest, La Belle in October 2010 I fought through the veils and came to terms with myself and every day since that epiphany every day has been a happy one. Wasn't easy. But necessary.

This is a good poem. A challenging poem. We need more like them.
