Look at me, blond or redhead you may see,
If I like nothing more in life, I fancy diversity.
Not sure if I do it to hide or add zest,
Perhaps I ‘m looking for the me I like best.
I am one of four, everyone younger than me
Like it or not it’s responsibility.
My Dad left for Heaven many years ago.
With him he took a very special glow.
Married as a child , a mom at seventeen,
I’d like to be a kid, you know what I mean?
Three wonderful sons, each one his own man,
Hunting and hiking they do this when they can.
The boys have grown and left the nest,
to do whatever they do best.
Time for mom to spread her wings,
to get a job among other things.
A new chapter in my life unfolds,
I work at school with five year olds.
I work in art class where I get to see,
so many complex personalities.
Out there in the working world,
my folded wings became unfurled.
I ran for office and got elected,
that I would win was unexpected.
The timid girl I used to be,
With age has turned her back on me.
Now I am filled with confidence,
my life to me makes perfect sense.
