Urban Streets
Ground fire burns beneath my feet
As I walk upon these urban streets
Submersed within the rift of my desire
Memories of deeds that have transpired
As I slum it here beside the fire
Whatever may come of life, beside the flame
May I find solace within its warmth?
Quench thy thirst and quiver thy heart
Amidst the bitter cold where death departs
How come the green thumb, vanished in the haze
Bubble gum lines the cobblestone paths
That led to my heart, where there was once joy
Now saddened tears depart this face
Oh how I lingered here burdened by my faith
Red gum once grew in this earthly place
Now laden in concrete, pond scum has taken its place
Wooden drums echo to the spirit gum fate
So long have I lingered here and here I shall wait
Beneath the hum of these urban streets
