A Strawberry Is Part Of My Birthing Tradition

I’ve heard the stories of 23rd November 1970 and my birth
And even though I don’t remember my first moments on earth
I was told I was born with a birthmark, the shape like a strawberry
And to top it off red, black, and blond hair too, and eyes coloured sky blue

I remember when I was young and all the strawberries that I ate
See, to me the strawberry's always been the birthday food and I was never fond of cake
And I remember rocking out to the kiss dynasty album with my drum kit in 1978
And I honoured that gift from 1978 on my birthday by buying a set off bongos in 1998

To symbolize the coming of change, I abstain for drinking coffee and drink tea for a change
See a birthday for me is a time of reflection, and to look at my life and all its imperfections
As I hold a strawberry in my hands and cast my thought up the ancient sands
Sacred traditions are mine to keep, and I feed on strawberries till I fall asleep

Each year I grow a little older, and its true my birthmark is visible as I’m getting balder
Its true the flares of my hair black, red, and blonde, are gone!
But I remember a kiss dynasty album and I sing along
Grey goes my hair but my memory is strong

I’m not one for old superstition, but a strawberry is part of my birthing tradition
Though I might be true that I'm never fond of cake, you’ll always find a strawberry upon my plate
