A poem written near the birth of my first grandchild.

IíVE SEEN YOU IN MY DREAMS

Iíve seen you in my dreams, my love,
Iíve seen you in my heart.
You will be born today, my love.
Your lifeís about to start.

Iíve seen your golden, curling hair
And eyes of cornflower blue.
You get those from your mother, love Ė
Perhaps your father too.

Iíve seen you in a yellow dress,
A smile upon your face;
A ribbon in your hair, my love
And on your dress, some lace.

It doesnít really matter whether
I am wrong or right.
For youíll be loved for who you are -
A love thatís true and bright.

And are you hail and hearty, love?
And are you girl or boy?
A grandmaís blessing I bestow -
A life thatís filled with joy.

Your daddy could not wait, my love
To hold you in his arms
He sang to you and told you tales
Of fairies, spells and charms.

Heíd press his lips against you love,
As in the womb you lay
And when he sang youíd dance, my love
And when he spoke youíd play.

And all the time your motherís smile
Would light her gentle face.
Sheíd laugh, [but wince, when you
kicked hard],
Your presence brought her grace.

Iíve seen you in my dreams, my love,
Iíve seen you in my heart.
You will be born today, my love.
Your lifeís about to start.
