About the death of childhood...

The soul laments this life
the bitterness it tolls

warped sense of gleeful time
twisted into memories

so deep lies the secrets
that hold the weeping child

monsters make adults to see
that glimmering hope, eternal bring

Tell lies you do to lonely hearts
the tongue, its filth denied

and truth is but a scarce embrace
that leads the soul to peace

the rot, the stench of this chamber still
we trip and plunder in

be gone thy withering heart
lead not us in despair

and make the light snuff out
that cold dark stare.

Mary, this poem speaks to me on such an intimate level. "warped sense of gleeful time" our memories are so fallible, and our perseptions as children are very different from those of the adults we become. "and make the light snuf out that cold dark stare." The imagery here and other areas put me there, at the death of childhood. Very meaningful write for me, and obviously for you. I am sure for most. Thank you. Be well, Kathy
