This came so strong, had to write it down ...

"... Would I give them for a better life, riches and gold? ...."

Forty eight:  a splendor of years,
a splendor of years!  Worth the tears

I've cried.  Would I give them for a
better life, riches and gold?  Nay,

although the journey has been hard,
(heart broken in a thousand shards

of misery), I would not trade
the path taken, the mistakes made,

and learned from.  Would I change them?  Of
course.  But would I then have known ... love?

I sure know what you mean.
Taken me this long to learn not to take peeps at face value, and the few real friends, treasure them....

I shudder at the thought of reliving my life. I've escaped so many tragedies by the skin of my teeth. I always think (as you do) that I would have missed out on a whole lot of beauty, and inevitably done a worse job of living. Nice thoughts. I'm glad you wrote them down. Writing sort of solidifies thoughts somehow, doesn't it? --Charlie

Maturity and intelligence make this piece of poetry a reflection to share.

And I would add: "Would you have known... life?"

Warmest best,

All that happens good or not so good as we journey through life is always for a reason. No, I do not have any regrets because all wrapped up all the different things have molded me to be me and you to be you. Love the write...

I wouldn't change a thing if I were you. :ife is a gravel road. If all was perfect we wouldn't realize that there is a difference.

A soul-searching poem with a satisfying answer. We all would likely change--or want to change--some things, but most we'd keep the same.

What a romantic and nostalgic look at love and the feelings that linger as loving memories matter what heartache occurs.
