Where were you ....

Erased
from memory,
the sacrifice of those
who serve(d).

Only
when convenient
do you wave the red, white
and blue,

wearing
your loyalty
like it was a ... flag or
something,

saying
you supported
them all along.  Really!
Where were

you when
a soldier came
home, injured in body
and mind?

When a
Veteran wound
up homeless and going
hungry?

... . ...

What?  Did
you say something?
Don't hear nothing except

... . ....

silence .. . . ..

Haunting words written here, Karla. Accusatory words written here and, unfortunately, all too true.

Very true and our troops today are being slaughtered for the sacrifice driven by politics. Such a sad state of affairs. I fly my flag everyday, and have yellow ribbons in the front window. Take the flag down when a new one needs to be put up and change the ribbons every six months. Now our nephew will be on his way to Afghanastan. Will he come home in a body bag too??

Be always safe,
Karen

an unfortunate state of the human condition ... it easy to forget what is uncomfortable ... but without those who have sacrificed mind & body, the complacent would have lost their freedoms a long time ago ,,,

Dearest Karla,

I see, speak and support you, our soldiers now serving and our much cherished Vets. Where would we be, what would we be and imagiine our lossesiif it weren't for these people who've turned their lives upside down to fight, sacrificed themselves and family life, at times... and still lack the respect of this great nation.
I say outstanding job to all. Thank you isn't even near a word that belongs.
Love and respect from this Georgia girl.

And then were the ones, those that went for weeks behind enemy lines to rescue prisoners, to take a dead soldier back which we never left behind, and the ultimate stuff of nightmares when we become tunnel rats, got promotion in the field and ribbons, got back to the US of A to be spit upon. In shame we changed our names legally, trying to forget our past and the ingratitude, but we never forgot or buddies, that it seems we were the only ones that didn't that.

This past September 11th I didn't hear a word from the huge company where I work. It just meant the word had to start with me.
I put up in our office the huge flag that draped my Uncle's casket- decades before I was born.
Silence is a difficult thing. It can mean we are speechless.
Sometimes I read a poem here and I would kiss the feet of that poet- but I don't have the words- or the phone rings and I'm off on a mission.
I try not to take silence personally when I'm looking for a response.
You are very dear to be the reminder often needed.

My father served our country in the 101st Airborne Division in WWII. Tears came to his eyes everytime someone acknowledged his sacrifices he made for our freedom. My brother, 19 years old gave his life in Vietnam and his body was never recovered. I salute and honor every Man and Woman who serves in the military for our feedom. Very well done Karla!

Karla~

Shame on us for forgetting those who gave their all (and even their lives) so we could be free!! We should spend some time in their shoes, let us see/feel the heat of battle, come home with limbs missing or our minds shot, or in intractable pain with no relief. Maybe then we could learn to show some compassion to those who answered the call to serve. You are the voice of experience: the voice of the Veteran, the voice who gives a damn. Well done, Karla, and thank YOU for YOUR service!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your twin, Karen Lynn. :( *tears!*

The very sad truth. People are basically shits and unless something directly affects their own little corner of the world, it is ignored. It's easy for them to forget the price paid every day for our freedoms by our current troops. The vets? Well, isn't that something you take your dog to? Criminal. Patrick

Sad reality and shameful fact. The Establishment has been very careful to keep our military an "all volunteer" force. Out of sight, out of mind. Like Oceania in 1984. Perpetual war but surreal at the same time. If there were a draft, more people would be outraged I'm sure. Powerful words Karla. Remember, it was George Bush Sr. who once referred to our men in uniform as "fodder units." Kissinger called them "dumb animals." Shows you what the politicians think.
