embe dded
like quartz
on the bottom of
a riverbed
memories
stud the road
of my mind
memories
the good ones
shine
white
like diamonds
sparkling
the not so good
are darker
worn and weathered
and the really
awful
horrible
ones
are black
beaten and abused
i try to pry
them loose
but they are stuck
fast
adhering
refusing to budge
i want to keep
the good ones
in my pocket
and throw the
bad ones
away
when times are rough
when i'm feeling sad
i can always
pull out a white one
"remember when..."
and get a memory jog
and smile
and laugh
"see
things
aren't
so
bad"

This is a really touching piece karla. but...it's light-hearted at the same time. It shows you have real talent when you can write something, and it makes people feel two different ways at once. Great job on this. Keep up the good work!

I am black but when times are rough, when you are feeling sad pull me out because I am white inside. Thank you Karla. I always feel inspired or touched in one way or the other when I read your poems.

Heheheh...Life is like one of those bags of miscellaneous marbles that are sometimes given as party favors. We get it for free, never know what the mix is going to contain when we open it, and there is alot of fishtank filler, but usually at least one or two good cat eyes and sparklies :)

Wow karla, this is an awesome write
I'll choose the white ones too
Just leave the black ones because,
by holding on to a black one won't change it's color

Awesome Work Karla! You are so right my dear friend, if only we could keep the good ones and throw away the bad YET we learn our hardest and often best lessons from the bad ones so they are needed in that important sense!
