The Waterfront

One day on the drive back home
I stopped by a beach
And watched the waves crash ashore

I wrote his name upon the sand,
But along came the waves
And washed it back

Amongst seashells, debris & soft sand
I wrote it again with a second hand
But along came the tide, and took away his name

I stood back a step as if in cue
And watched the sea
As it changed its hue

As the surf came again
And foamed around my feet in a cool vise
Tempting me to wade further by calling my eponym

The sea mocked me & said that I was vain
For I was immortalizing a name
When I myself, would one day decay

Very nice...a poem that places one within the grasp of Nature and its power, as it shows the erasure of human work...
