NOT BETRAYED
BY: JEFFREY W. BENNETT
8 DEC 97

I agonized of her betrayal

Mary my promised wife to be

I would have left quietly to still her shame

You sent and angel, stayed my heart

The plan unfolded, I ran to Mary

Did not consider the prophesy

How can I father Emmanuel, God with us?

How, a mere man, wretched in your eyes

could gain favor

To teach him of life through a fathers eyes

as I yet humble to the name of Jesus

To think, I almost put her away

Mary, the mother or your child

For she was found with child while yet a virgin

Yet to fulfill your promises
those twenty eight generations ago

To even David my great father

She is carrying your promise

Mary, the mother of the Lord

I can hardly provide, a mere carpenter

Strengthen my heart, commission me to
prepare him, the Savior of your people

A burden I cannot stand to bear
