you're right Jude aka Robert, the little kid in me remembers you as Robert Jude Ace Forese, I'm trying to adapt though. To be honest I like Robert Jude Ace better, sorry. Grady never settle with me that well, I like OnepoetGem or opg better. like you stated above,
men act out self-induced theaters of conflict
existing only in their minds
yet the play
externalizes
into a collective frenzy of unease
echoing across the planets surface
where the primordial yowl
begins in cribs of obscurity
ending in coffins of irrelevance,
living on in the psyche of isolated despair

There is the desire to interpret your words generically - "man" as in mankind - but I think you're right to emphasise it's the male specifically who is identified in your poem. And I DO believe that these traits can begin pre-birth, stemming from insecurity in the womb. Men and women are completely co-dependent emotionally, it seems to me. The two are fine-tuned and in balance in "perfect" relationships mother/child, spousal, where a form of symbiosis is healthily sanctioned. But, for whatever reasons, disruptions obviously occur. Give me the man and I will give you the three-year old child. And women have other outworkings of such infantile emotional dislocations. In my own experience, what one woman can do to another possibly far exceeds in damage that done by any man - save that the male can exert brute force... and therein lies the rub: Boys with their toys... world leaders with the globe... same thing, nuff sed.
And, Kartero, this is one of your very keenest, smartest, well-wrought bests. A fine-tuned little number that has been scalpel-crafted and comes from some very long, hard scrutinies and insights... and more than a dash of personal experience, first or second-hand. The last four lines are to die for, literally! That primordial yowl rends the heavens and prowls the earth. A spectral forth-telling: concentrated and spit-n-polished nicely. Good to go to print - spoon fe(e)d? Kradle Kate xx |

I used to yowl a lot, but I got civilized and just bitch now.
With uncharacteristic clarity, you have summed up the human condition. Male testosterone drives the stupidity of conflict, from bar fights, to spousal abuse, to war. In spite of their arrogance, most men lead insignificant lives.

| Oh how much in such a few words, deep introspective, an expose of mans nature, or nuture, or both, his inheritance or learned compulsions, like Peter said, there's lots to chew on, but it should be chewed slowly, some good needed nourishment might feed a more thoughtful loving, less fearful universal collective mind. I shall save this one thank you! Peace, Jasmin Horst |

I have always maintained that testosterone was the deadliest chemical on the planet. With that said, I believe it is the way we raise our sons that perpetuates their inner and exterior conflicts and their fear of any type of failure or judgment. Though women have their crosses to bear, men do as well. I really like this poem, though I would have expected it to come more from the observations of a woman than from the introspective vision of a man. Kudos, Jude.
Take care,
Sherry

| Why are we this way? Provactive question of the evening: could man exist if he were not predatory? Somehow, even though you or I know it to be wrong, is it just inherent in the nature of "man" to weed and vex eachother out? It must be, because the same vicious cycle continues unabated. What is the orgin of evil, of violence? Are we just unevolved, or were we purposely designed this way? Gene splicing, cross-breeding by advanced races thousands of years ago? Many theories abound. Still no good answers. Great poem and lots to chew on. We should look at ourselves more often this way. Stop pointing fingers. Last four lines of poem are a killer. Nicely done! |

Deeply wounded dreams, a cry to be heard, understood, noticed. What is wrong with man? Can he not live in peace, love, and harmony, why must he play in a playground filled with muddy waters, and insecurities, failing to see the beauty around him. Nothing matters but life itself, nothing feels better than loving oneself, nothing is everything.
Yowl all they want, as long as life is in their breath, they are living and hopefully being loved.
Very deeply moving on this Thursday evening, Jude, you have an amazing mind, and I love to figure out the enigmatic way you write. You are a challenge and that only makes me want to read and comment all the more...:) xo
