Society’s Mask

Meandering life,
it befuddles me
at times.

I can sit there,
contemplating all
there is in the world.

… and what it is lacking there of.

Yet,
I find nothing but
the harsh reality that
society has condemned
its own to certain death.

And that would be the
passing away of individuality.

However,
on that note,
I have also noticed
another little scheme
cooked up by these robots
walking around and calling
themselves …

… human.

The philosophy of self expression.

Yes,
it is severely lacking there of.
Oh, don’t get me wrong for
there are those who stand out
yet in the end, add up to nothing
but a mouth full of air.

Windbags, nothing more.

There is no soul,
no spirit to rejoice in
as they spew forth their
stories. The only thing on
their minds is something
more degrading.

Pretty words,
fancy literary baubles.
But they hold no water
to those cast out of
society for being themselves.

Look now,
there, in the mirror.
Tell me, what is it that
gazes back at you?

You wouldn’t know it,
even if it knocked you
upside the head with a
nice Louisville Slugger.

Cliques,
if you don’t fit
with any, unaccepted
by society you are.

Now, tell me, by all means
why in the hell would I want
to live a life where I have
no thoughts of my own and
everyone looks the same.

Clones, robots …
so many ‘humans’
that are merely mechanical
and do not breath.

So,
go ahead and hide
behind society’s
mask.

I prefer to stare at my own face
while brushing my teeth.

This reminds me of the idiots directing traffic yesterday when a big rig overturned. You sure put a spin on the state of affairs today.
