Husband of fellow den writer Kathy Armijo, Steve has been my friend for more than 30 years.  With monsoons upon us in our part of the country, last night was just another night in our lives reminding me how special our friendship is.

Thanks, Steve.  I love you.

Heroic Friendship

Do you know that you’re a hero?

At least you are to me

You’ve never had to save my life

But a part of it you will always be

I’ve overlooked the little things

And even some not so small

Taking for granted the niceties

Until I take a fall

Last night the storm showed little mercy

In the flood and mud I led the way

You became my shining light

When suddenly my truck slid sideways

Mother Nature had the upper hand

As I blocked our only route

There was no animosity in your voice

Simply, “Don’t worry, we’ll get you out”

With half a dozen trucks behind me

Lordy, I wished I owned a jeep

But you rallied them all together

In mud more than ankle-deep

You orchestrated the extraction

And I made it to safe ground

No comments on my driving abilities

Just cheers all around

One by one the mud was traversed

With help, every vehicle got out

Standing in the rain, hot coffee in hand

Friendships had won out

I know when we look back

‘Woman drivers’ jokes will reign

Just remember you are my hero

As I pout and feign disdain

Great friendship this is to get you out of the muddy troublesome things like he does. Not many are willing to get dirty like he had to have gotten. A special friend is always needed by someone. Valuable write.

Sometimes the nicest things come out of bad situations. A good friend will sympathize when we get our vehicles stuck in mud or snow, a great friend will be there helping us get it out. Guess we know which you have and he is also lucky for the depth of this write shows how deeply you do appreciate him

First Kathy Armijo - then you - all of my friends are coming back! Oh, how I've missed you, too - hope all is well with you?

What a shining example of what friendship is: all jokes aside, your hero deserves this bow you honor him with - well done! Glad you are safe.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

If you tire of the monsoons, send a little rain our way? Hot - humid - icky sticky HAWTness here! LOL

This is beautiful. It is wonderful to have friends who will stick by our sides in good times and bad. Recently, in the wake of my father's sudden passing, I've experienced this very thing, myself. The last three weeks have been weeks of drastic change, shock, and busyness, but the support of my friends, locally and online, have made the difficult times a little easier to bear.

Take care and stay safe,
