I wish you would go away
and leave me alone.
Then - maybe -
I can forget you enough
that my heart won't hurt
so much.

You see,
I know,
even if you don't,
for all our long talks,
for all our "honesty,"
for all our trying:
our marriage was
nothing more
than a series
of
one-night stands.
