When I was young and innocence was fresh

I played under an old weeping willow.

I don’t know why it has such a sad name.

I had so much joy hidden away in that fantasy land

dreaming and imagining under that tree

of my future and happiness and love.

Then life came along

and I wasted so much time weeping like that willow

that I almost forgot the times I played

and just knew my prince charming would come along.

What took you so long?

I'm glad he came along!

What would life be if it wasn't shared?

Nan, We've all wasted a certain amount of time and yet we are so grateful for the journey as you've cleverly shared. Blessings...Frances

Perhaps the best tree there is. My all time favorite too.

A wonderful use of imagery. The emotion in this poem is raw and real - true to life. Well done!

My favorite tree is the weeping willow and I too had many a joyous day playing and dreaming under one as a child. I love this poem and as you said life came and with it the weeping, but I remember well my dreams of youth and still hold many such dreams close to my heart. Thank you for reminding me of some them. Elizabeth
