Weeping Willow

When I was young and innocence was fresh
I played under an old weeping willow.
I don’t know why it has such a sad name.
I had so much joy
hidden away in that fantasy land
dreaming and imagining under that tree
of my future and happiness and love.

Then life came along and I wasted
so much time weeping like that willow
that I almost forgot the times I played
and just knew my prince charming would come along.

What took you so long?

A wonderful use of imagery. The emotion in this poem is raw and real - true to life. Well done!

My favorite tree is the weeping willow and I too had many a joyous day playing and dreaming under one as a child. I love this poem and as you said life came and with it the weeping, but I remember well my dreams of youth and still hold many such dreams close to my heart. Thank you for reminding me of some them.
