Jumping backawards about a year, but I realized I never posted this poem here. It uses the imagery of the game of chess, comparing it to the games lovers play. |

A dance floor of marble Stretches out under the light Eight by eight squares Of black and white
Mirrored walls reflect infinitely Finding nothing around us But the pawns and court We employ to protect us
But how easily we sacrifice The players in between When the king's goal Is to capture the queen
The king and queen of light Must follow rules so complex To reach Regina Nocturmus And her dark Morus Rex
And what of the game When queens and kings meet? Will there be check for each mate? Can we ever admit defeat?
The game will soon be over And the rules we will rewrite As the pieces are replaced on This board of black and white
