Closure

This poem is about finding closure when a relationship ends.

In a tear filled goodbye
You remain a part of me
A final moment of clarity
Invading your space and mine

Yet I leave in knowledge
Proudly knowing who I am
Dignified in what I am not
Peace at last in conclusion

Lingering memories I take
Of a love and heart break
As you stood I knew love
In the greatest depths I understood

You are beautiful as you
In our differences we just were
Just as love just IS
The gift comes in knowing you

In accepting our unique personalities
No expectations of change
No demands or pleading
YOU are beautiful as am I

Crossed arms, distant face
No explanations even needed
Our time has come and gone
Yet I know after the tears

After all the hurt subsides
As one door closes
Another door surely opens for me
I'm excited knowing there lies a light

One day a new face will appear
As I lose what seemed wrong
Who knows, I may gain something right
Now I am ready as closure comes

I am ready and I anticipate
The joyful day
A new love on the horizon
It's all in how you see it

Closure need not be feared
So I embrace it
Thankful for knowing you
As we were both true to ourselves

I didn't need to change you
You didn't need to change me
We just were
For a time we just loved

Absolution comes for us
As this chapter ends
I know I will miss you
In a song, in a movie, in my heart

So I let go and let God
Knowing we will be fine
As the sunshines on a new day
May our journeys be forever blessed

Closure sometimes needs to just be
Our finale of fireworks
As the sun sets
The stars burst with promise
