The haunting call

Travels the distance

Through the trees

Mournful but eerily familiar

The sound echoes

Rising and falling

The black and white loon

Floats on glassy water

Calling to its mate

Crying out

As if in pain

Or in loss

The distinct cry

Wrenches at strings

In my heart

So beautiful

Yet so sad

The loon sings

Silence fallows

As the song fades

Leaving one alone

Always wanting to hear more

A fine ode to the call of the loon, Alexandra. There's no other wild creature's cry quite like it. It can indeed be very evocative. Thank you. Love and best wishes,

Alexandra,
What a beautiful heartfelt poem you have written. I am drawn to nature as you are, it's beauty and simplicity makes the soul soar!
Nicely done.
