Compassion Is...

Compassion is

A kind word

A friendly smile

A caring gesture

During a time

Dark and gloomy

A helping hand

Being reached out

For no other reason

But to comfort

It's a kind heart

Deep in us all

But where has

It gone?

Everyday is

A dark day

Riddled with

Crime

Abuse

destsruction

So sad

Tears are shed

Words are said

Sadness is felt

But yet each day

Is a gloomy day

Someone is murdered

A child is abducted

An animal is abused

And savagely killed

Compassion is

Present in all

But then why

Is there more

Crime

Abuse

Destruction

Alsways so sad

Kind ears soon

Seem to become

Rare

And I must ask

Where has the

Compassion gone

In these days

So dark and sad

I understsnd your concerns...but there is still so much compassion around...Look at the efforts of the rescuers from all the many countries of the world after the Haiti disaster...I think we are presented with so much negative news..the good stuff can get lost amongst it..However your poem is beautifully written and questioning..which is always a positive thing to do..

Hugs, Diana..

A very good question in this sad old world of ours today; and our modern lack of compassion seems to be getting worse and worse.
