“Alone in the Room”

I sit here alone, there is noise all about,

the children, all giggles, are tamed with a shout.

There’s conversation from this one and that

and in the midst of it all, there I sat.

Not hearing it clearly, to not understand

and little they cared whether I was around,

for I have grown old in their eyes.

Not up to date in the ways of the world

but little they know, I’ve been there before.

Nothing is new, its all been done.

Once I longed for the days when I too was young,

filled to the brim with vinegar and vim

But now I’m content to while time away and

visit old friends grown better with age.

Content in this world of noise and strife

And know that I’ve had the best of this life.

I love being around people older than me. We can learn so much from those who have lived more and seen more than we have, and there is a wisdom in seeing that, and a foolishness to not. Bittersweet and moving poem.

Bittersweet sentiments and perhaps joining the others would do a world of good as I am sure you have so much to offer...

Be always safe,

This poem touched my heart. I used to be a cna in a nursing home so I understand what the elderly go through. Many are forgotten, lonely and alone. Thank you for your insight on the elderly.

Many blessings,
