A spirit, cast in earthly clay,
And every other creatures kin,
On footpaths of a starry way,

Our quest for survival is our primary spirit. Without it, we wouldn't survive a day. All the other animals have spirit, too. Once we no longer have oxygen to the blood or blood to the brain, the chemical reactions that create this spirit are gone… Simply gone. As much as we would like it to, the spirit does not live beyond the brain.
