The world needed hope
And people wanted a change
So God sent a man
Barack Obama was his name.
He seemed to be a person
We did not know
A senator and family man
Who hailed from Chicago
He faced his critics
And displayed much tact
He proved to everyone
That he is a class act
He approached the cynics
With a sense of humor
And he had to put to rest
Many a rumor
He had lived in two worlds
Because of mom and dad
He has a cool demeanor
But never seems to get mad
We never thought we’d live
To see the day
When this African-American
Would pave the way
To move into the White House
Over in Washington, DC
We’re sure he’ll make a change;
We just need to wait and see
The surprise occurred in ‘08
On Election Day
When the overwhelming majority
Had the final say
Obama is now known
As the 44th President-elect
He gives, requires
And demands much respect
But sacrifice is what we know
We’ll have to do
To right the many wrongs
Of the red, white and blue
We’ll focus on jobs,
Education and health
And sharing with every person
This nation’s wealth
It has taken forty years
After Dr. King
For the dream to be realized
In this marvelous thing
The world has renewed hope
In the dream of this man
Who has pulled us together
With, “Yes We Can.”
