IT WASN'T OUR FAULT

Whose fault really was it? asked the Belfast shipbuilder.

It wasn't our fault Titanic sank
We built her true and stout
But fate would use her we would find
To knock icebergs about

It wasn't our fault she went full speed
The blue ribbon for her prize
And on this mighty unsinkable ship
God would bring them down to size

It wasn't our fault people drowned
When they held extra lifeboats back
The company ruled that any more
Would clutter up the deck

It wasn't our fault third class fares
Were locked below so tight
The company had decided this
It was their given right

It wasn't our fault help came late
When the rockets flew so high
As the helpless people on the deck
Watched explosions in the sky

But it is our fault that this heritage
That we need so much today
Is another missed opportunity
That may rot and fade away
