poet caught in the headlights

blinded, deaf and dumb
words distorted and dim
just a bright white numbing
mutterings stuttered
pondering words to articulate
a wreck about to happen
spots before my eyes
leaving bits and pieces
unable to articulate in words

poet caught in the headlights

a wreck in mind
swerving suddenly away
out of the high beams
causing spontaneous linguistics
even though you've hit the dims
blinded by the bright
detoured road closed
backtrack into the surreal
fall or rise speechless

poet caught in the headlights

roll with the punches
just hang on for the ride
high beams pierce the mind
thoughts are tattered and torn
pre-programmed to doubt
imperiling the journey
missing the scenery
sadly unable to paint it

poet caught in the headlights
seeking sanctuary

An excellent title that illustrates the experience very effectively. Your word choice explores the difficulty of feeling helpless until we find the way to our own words again.

"...roll with the punches" All one can do when they're caught in the wheel and under. Thankfully the wheel keeps going 'round and we go up again. Great write, Dale!

Dale,
This is how I feel these days, dazed and confused..I need to find my center once again, I wish it would stop snowing! We all need the heat and comfort of the summer sun..
Much peace, love, and light,
