reluctant prophet

speaks of inadvertent visions
along this wooded path
wandering life's journey
listening to bird song
telling of joy and pain
the many forms of change
visions of this reluctant observer
of time and fortune
sadness envelopes his mind

reluctant prophet

whispers and screams
wandering this plain
countryside and farms
soon to be paved
boxes shall be erected
to house the greed
the multitudes shall recede
as mother earth will regain
and nourish her domain

reluctant prophet

sadly walking upon the lane
snowflakes dancing the last swirl
warmed as spring thirsts
expansive gray of prairie lay
in the semi-light of today
the sun hidden from sight
the king of lies is revealed
to this reluctant observer
inadvertently realizing truth

Great lines, wonderful title. In this poem, I can find the vision of the poet, the sadness, the awareness, the beauty too. I especially like the image that comes to mind in the last three lines.

You made me consider the often lonely and responsible job of The Prophet, Dale... and just how often they feel unwilling and unfit for the task. Also of the particular psyche and temperament required to be entrusted with Messages, Visions, Dreams. It's a very uncomfortable place, seeing everything, being given understanding into things that others around you just do not see or even begin to consider. Thought-provoking and lucid. xx
