The Cold Winter

The Cold Winter

I walked outside today

to a bright and sunny fall day.

The wind was blowing the leaves

throughout the air.

I knew the trees would soon be bare.

The sky was a beautiful blue

with white puff clouds

that were turning a little gray

and I knew also it wouldn’t stay that way.

Shortly the trees will look dead

and that is the time of year I truly dread.

Everything will look so gloom and doom

And the chilly air will be arriving soon.

Winter is coming and it will be cold.

The time of year that is hard on the old.

The snow will be pretty as it’s coming down,

but it soon turns dirty after hitting the ground.

The kids are building snowmen which looks like fun

but they will have cold hands and feet after it’s done

Now all around them the snow is a mess

But it is okay since they’re having fun I guess.

The snowplow trucks driven by hard working men

The traffic pushing forward

with splatters from the wheels

makes the white blanket of snow

not so pretty again.

Winter for me is not a great time-

but I guess I should quit complaining

and not really mind.

I can stay inside and be warm and write

and be grateful that everything is alright

Because being alive and well is a delight.

Wow, how nice! Me too. I do not always hate winter. What I don't like is a gloomy weather. You right! No point of complaining. We can do something to brighten up our day.

Judith,

You paint a perfect picture of the whoas of winter.I remember my days in Maryland like that. The winters in the desert are so beautiful, I'm glad I don't have to go through that anymore!

Love your attitude at the end-i am your opposite, love the fall and winter, HATE the summer- I am allergic to sunlight, and the summer with long sleeves, sun gloves, etc, is sheer torture on 98 degree humid NY days- but, I, like you at the end, have learned to live around it. I have fibromyalgia, so i can relate to the cold and the bones, i feel 88 some days, not 38, lol. I really enjoyed this and have to track you now :)

The visuals in this wonderful piece are so amazing. I could see it all with you and yes, no matter what you are around to see and feel it all...

Be always safe,

Brrrrrr.... I don't normally live thru those type of winters...but last year I did in Colorado... brrrrrr..... but now I live in Phoenix area and it's warm most of the winter... I love the slight chill in the air...but appreciate that we don't get snow... since I do love the white ... in small doses... we can drive up about 2-1/2 hours into the mountains...skiing, snow, cabins, and log homes... it's so beautiful...so.. we get to sit by the fireplace, enjoy the walks, and then....go back home.....where it's nice and warm... Happy Winter friend... lindalaw
