Stalking Me At Midnight

The edges are crimson
Fiery red liquid drips
Cascading from a deep wound
Slowly at first
But in a steady stream
Downward, ever downward
Steaming in the crisp mountain air
Picking up speed as it flows
Wickedly smiling from within
Fear creates a pounding heart
Pumping the liquid faster
A midnight shriek assails the air
I awaken to hear the scream was mine
Drenched in a cold sweat
He haunts my subconscious
Stalks me by night
His eyes laugh at me
An all-consuming cruelty
Who are you?
Where do you come from?
I have no memory of that face
Nor of the eyes that pierce my heart
But his power over me continues
A relentless pursuit
Night after night
Until my blood pulsates with fear

hmmm....disturbing, to say the least...you evoke the fear quite ably, i found myself pausing to envision what you wrote...a sure sign that your writing was effective. nice work, poet!
