A Rescue in the Dead of Night

Beneath the thickened shadows
Of a long and horrendous night
A couple dozes in secret
After their extremely perilous plight
The arrows no longer fly
No clang of swords do they hear
They sleep in silent solitude
Away from the blood and fear
The soldiers were called back
When they couldn’t find their prey
And once the danger passed
Upon a bed of grass they lay
It was a gruesome task
To steal her away from the lord
His bow was expertly accurate
While he bloodied many swords
His name she was screaming
While he broke down her door
Then putting her on his horse
Through the night they did soar
No other horse was faster
As they sailed through the gate
For not even the strongest of steeds
Could come between he and his mate
So now as the rescue
Has come safely to a close
He draped his arms around her
As they fell into a peaceful repose
