Death is not the end so many believe, and I explore the impact this has on our lives.

Sun slowly descending in the west
Multitude of evening stars begin to shine
The birds grow silent in their nests
Time for me to seek for mine
.
The moon, like a flower sprouting forth
Topping heaven's high majesty
Serene with silent delight
Sits and smiles down on the night

Say goodbye, vast fields and happy wood
Remembered sky filled with flocks in delight
Where once deer nibbled, now silent and bare
Only the feet of angels, bright dancing on forest floor

Almost seen, they pour blessing and cheer
Waves of carefree joy without ceasing
Damp light touch on each bud and blossom
Gentle caress of love for each sleeping bosom

Watching over each thoughtless nest
Where birds are covered warm and safe
They visit the slumbers of every creature of life
Undertaking eternal to keep them all from harm

Finding any weeping, aquiver in the dark
Restless and stirring, where should have been sleep
Then they pour restful slumber, calm their souls to bring sleep
And sit down by their beds to guard through the night

Dark world awakens, wolves and tigers howl for prey
The watchers fill with pity, stand and weep o’r the fray
Seeking to drive the hungry from the weak
And keep them, one more night, safe and secure

But, if they rush in most dreadful
The angels give most heedful aid
And receive each mild spirit
Guide carefully to new worlds to come

I can lie down now and sleep myself
Or think on Him who bore me
I graze out in dream, and weep the loss
Pray guard the fold, and await the sun’s return…
