Of Dragons and Sorcerers

Dare to touch the clouded mists of time
In realms of magic, sorcerer’s rhymes
Through the misted haze a dragon’s breath
Fiery diamonds upon his breast

He flies before a tower's ring
In the forest hidden, to men unseen
The price demanded for secrets kept
is the life of a child, a daughter wept

She holds a cup up to her lips
from gilded jewels a poison drips
Of the curse this child is not aware
a drip falls on her flaxen hair

Told she must drink, her womanhood near
she stands in sunlight, looking in fear
To stay a child she longs in her heart
The dragon’s will forces her part

"Goodbye to my past" she cries and holds
her cup to a future yet untold
"A woman's body will soon be mine"
with dreams of a prince she drank deadly wine

Mists appeared as she fell to her floor
Visions of dragons now haunting her door
Where life and death had merged into one
She saw those who before her had come

All taken from the tower’s great ring
With voices of ghosts they quietly sing
Their lords had given for secrets kept
Their lives to the dragon, in song they wept

‘Hell is beyond us, death cannot find
Its way through the mists, hidden and blind
Slaves to a master engulfed in fire
A female child to feed his desire’

From outside the shadows came a man
The arm of a prince with sword in hand
His armor gleaming in dragon’s lair
To the maiden’s side he dared come near

How came this man, the maidens cried
A mortal man who yet can die
In fear they ran to a blackened stone
Prince faced the dragon standing alone

The dragon’s fire fell upon his shield
The doomed prince stood, refusing to yield
A secret told on a deathbed held
One solemn chance to break the spell

He threw his sword, one mark desired
The dragon’s mouth erupted with fire
‘Magic sword fly true ’ they heard him yell
From dragons breath the great sword fell

His death now certain, the maidens looked on
All but one, but how, the new child had gone
To find the great sword lost in the cave
Her life and her lover she now must save

A talon came down to kill her lord
Through blinding fire a glistening sword
To the dragon’s eye the blade ran true
A child had risen, to a woman grew

Mists lifted, suns light through forest’s trees
Warmed faces of maidens though dead they be
Only one could pass on to a mortal’s grave
A chance to die the dragon's death gave

The two walked up the Tower's stair
A lover's oath remembered there
He took her hand, with his last breath
To join her lept unto his death

The Dragon and The Rose - Part 2: The Confrontation by Diane Hundertmark

Richard has faced the "Turning Point" in his life, but it is yet to be seen if he will survive the "confrontations" to come. The reason for the PG rating is the same as for the fir..
