A poem I wrote years ago, but thought needed a refresher. |
|
Last night, and thrice the week before – I dreamt a dream I’ve dreamed before. The ocean, vast and wondrous blue I dreamt that I had sailed with you.
The whales called their mournful cries As dolphins dived along the side Of our ship – large, straight and true The moon reflected over you…
"Come sail the world with me," you said. "I’ll show you lands with cliffs of red, the sea we’ll sail - so far away Travelling, happy all our days.
"I’ll show you pyramids on high, In Giza where the workers cried Alexanders’ conquered worlds afar The Sphinx that lies beneath the stars.
"We’ll see Colossus, tall and true . The coliseum in Rome we’ll view – We’ll climb the peaks of Kootenay In Babylon, we’ll walk ‘mongst bouquets.
The mausoleum, the green Greek isles, The Blackened Sea, we’ll sail awhile. I’ll hold you in my arms so free If only you will sail with me…"
He paused and waited for reply. The moon reflecting in his eyes. I watched, and thought of words to say, And then they came, from far away…
"The pyramids on high, I’ve seen. Fields of wheat, and yards of green. The coliseum, the green Greek isles, The blackened sea would not bring smiles.
"The sphinx, the deserts with kings of old. They are spectacular, I’m told. But, all those things are not for me. I dream only of you and I sailing the sea..."
