Katrina Miller, caterpiller
on a sunny bright spring day
sat on a leaf eatng lunch
as the tree around her swayed.
She daydreamed of the grand attire
she would some day wear.
and the awe she would inspire
as she fluttered through the air.
Her dream and lunch were both cut short
when a bluebird saw her there
and he took her up into his nest
with his mate to share
Katrina was a tiny thing
and the bluebird's mate complianed
then flung Katrina through the air
to show her great disdain
Katrina landed on a leaf
quite frightened from her ordeal
then quickly scampered underneath
she was no bluebird's meal
All the hours of the afternoon
while the bluebirds argued above her
she worked to spin her tight cocoon
then just before her head was covered
she stuck out her tongue at those awful bluebirds.
