Grief

A bird who does not sing
A church bell with no ring
Silence can be so deafening

If you listen close
You will hear
How silence can be
So very true and dear

The best form of self-defense
Is silence at its best

If you listen
You will hear
Not a word but just a tear

If you listen
You can feel pain
Not a truth
But sense horrific rain

If you listen
You can feel sorrow
Perhaps nothing borrowed
And in hopes
There is a better tomorrow

If you listen
You can feel emptiness
Only in memory
As one is much missed

If you listen
You can learn
From mistakes
That made you burn

And in time
If you listen
And look inside
You can mend
And silence
Will be your dearest friend

Many depths of passion--and pain--ease their way into the silence of our soul. Your last stanza, however, shares healing light:

And in time
If you listen
And look inside
You can mend

Dear Staci,

You already know how I feel about the way you write. This just serves to confirm what I felt before. You write from you soul. For some reason I cannot explain; it's as though you were writing my feelings. Love and best wishes,

Regis (Reg)
