Drifting idly - Sonnet

My life came to a halt since you had gone;

I lost direction, the purpose to live,

On the chessboard of life, I'm just a pawn.

Feeling spent, empty, with nothing to give.

I miss you. I miss your touch, miss your smile…

I'm aware that nothing lasts forever

And this emptiness will last just a while;

Some peace of mind will return, however,

I seem to be doing nothing else now,

Just moping, groaning, sitting on my butt,

And wrongly believing too that, somehow,

There's nothing else left for me to do, but

Drifting idly, adding fat to my girth,

Waiting for my time to end on this Earth…

Very sad this ending, the loneliness is so on the surface and raw, very moving poem, have missed your work, my blessings to you, my friend, Michelle xxx

You express a universal theme most effectively via your verses here, Peter. Thank you. My best wishes to you with love and peace,

Hi Peter,
Beautiful, sorrow laden words. But your wife is with you, within you, all around you. Nothing dies, my friend. Furthermore, you are not idle it seems: your mind is birthing sonnets in honour of her you love so deeply. Now what about a few verses telling us about her smile, her laughter and her beauty, as they resonate down through time and enrich us all?

It is a missing feeling depicted through the lines of this poetic grand... "Drifting idly - Sonnet" paints pain with the live colors of art.

In admiration,

(((HUGS))) love and prayer, Peter - do not wish for death. I would think your wife, as we do here at the Den, would wish for you life. Heartfelt expression of sorrow evident in these lines - well penned.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Heartfelt write, Peter; you are always in my thoughts and prayers! I know the times without your beloved must be hellish! Do not give up hope; rely on God; He'll get you through the worst times! He did with me!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in America, Karen Lynn in Texas. :(
