I offer you this variation of Chapter 30 from my most recent book, MYSTERIOUS TRAILS OF AMERICAN FOLKLORE. (ISBN 9781461031154 - CREATE SPACE 2011)

A creature was seen one weekend
Swimming around the open bay
Deep in the heart of Lake Tahoe
A "SEA SERPENT" is what some say

Deep down in its' darkest waters
Not very far from the town dock
Was said to have razor like teeth
Yet some say it's a bunch of crock

Supposedly took a gambler
Who maybe had too much to drink
That's a usual thing with them
Without alcohol they can't think

Anyways, back to this creature
Seen by native witnesses too
As it slithered under the waves
Knocked a guy clean from his canoe

It pulled him under the waters
A large red stain soon marked the place
His body hasn't yet been found
For two whole days they dragged the lake

So, Nevada has its' monster
Some have chosen Chance for her name
And she has a taste for gamblers
Now that shall be her claim to fame

Thank you for sharing this legend, Paul. I am not familiar with most American stories such as this so I do appreciate your sharing. Love and peace to you,

Nice legend I hadn't heard before. I seem to remember a monster named Chance, though. Saw an offer in the Stanford Magazine for little piece of real estate on the lake. Only a cool twenty million, discounted by five hundred dollars. Guess you have to be a 1%er to get bit by Chance in Tahoe.

Speaking of the rich and monsters. My twin brother and his wife were guests of his brother-in-law on Beaver Island in the middle of Lake Michigan over the 4th. While watching boat races, Roger and several others observed a 6 foot long creature swimming on the surface for some distance. Surmised that it may have been a sturgeon. I would guess it was one of those pet alligators flushed down a toilet in Chicago or Milwaukee that was thriving just fine in the global warming waters of Lake Michigan. ;-)

Well done Paul!
I especially liked these lines...
"Anyways, back to this creature
Seen by native witnesses too
As it slithered under the waves
Knocked a guy clean from his canoe."

This happened to me and I think it was a Manatee!

If the last paragraph is correct, then I could swim across the lake and even ride on its back, as I am not a gambler whatsoever as gamblers win more often than they lose, while I LOSE EVERYTIME...neat story, Paul...how is NH...? or did u move to, what was it, Mass....?

Love, romance, innocence, intrigue, danger, and lust. Life is complicated, and love even more so. Life, and love, can be hazardous to a lady's health. Especially if she's fallen in..
