The story explains it all. |

Abandoned and chained to a tree
When you were but a little one
Still, old enough to understand
By man to you this deed was done
After they found you, you were sent
To the pound to await a home
But for the horrors you'd been through
You wanted to be left alone
You cringed when someone came too close
It was man that was cruel to you
After sixteen weeks of waiting
There was no more that they could do
Scheduled you to be put down
In three days time you'd be no more
But God had other plans for you
The day I walked in through their door
Searching for a dog I could love
I came upon you in your pen
Shaking with fear you watched me close
But seemed to sense I was a friend
When told I could not adopt you
I angrily asked them "Why?"
They said that you hated people
And that you would soon have to die
I refused to let them do that
Without holding you close to me
I asked to be alone with you
I felt our love was meant to be
They put us in a room alone
But you cowered in a corner
So softly I explained to you
"Lighten up or you're a goner"
I approached you very slowly
As they watched us through a window
Hesitantly you crept up to me
Then licked my hand as if to show
Those looking on we were okay
A tad frightened but doing fine
Then you went home with me that day
You seemed happy to be all mine
We became one big family
You'd sigh when we rubbed your belly
Don't ask me why.... it seemed to fit
Together we named you Kelly
You remained a little timid
When strangers came nosing around
The hairs on your back stood right up
And you'd give them a warning growl
But slowly you learned to trust again
You made everyone your friend
Such a loving dog you became
Right up to the very end
Fourteen years you were our Kelly
Your golden fur bright as sunshine
You brought us affection and love
Kelly Girl, you'll ever be mine
Yes, I know you are now at peace
Even though you are not with me
Play with your friends at Rainbow Bridge
I'll see you in Eternity
