I loved you once
but memories can't
keep love alive
when the flame burns out and the feelings die
I loved you once
I loved you once
..indeed feelings die..yet, I'd say that they just evolved into those that need no physical expression..so the love that once was still is--
Thank you for this insightful piece..I like your mind..

| I don't think the poem is sad, I think it is a tender moment of realization that your passionate love has turned to love of another kind, a remembering, and yes, a sad remembering, but things remembered are good. Hope I didn't goof up my meaning. |

You know, I read this when you first posted it and thought I reviewed it. :-) I love the lyrical quality of this piece and the fullness of emotion. It reminds me of my poem "His Long Lost Love," which is not posted here anymore, but you can read it at www.hislonglostlove.com Don't ask me why it reminds me of that, William, it just does. Perhaps you'll have a clue if you read mine and will tell me. On dreams, I agree with your comment left on my poem. As always, I enjoy your work. In a bit of funk last night and so that dirge of a poem spilled over. ~~Nordette

| How sad, and haunting, and beautiful, William Haynes! Going from beauty, to memory, to loneliness; and then the fact that love can't live by itself. It needs be nourished. Well done. Peace. |
