I wrote this poem for my baby daughter in 1994 when she would stare at the wall and laugh while I was changing her.
SweET LITTLE CHILD THOUGH YOU CAN'T HEAR
I'm just over your shoulder, ever so near.
Keeping watch by day & all through the night,
i'm always in your heart, you're always in my sight.
THE wORLD IS SO BRAND NEW, THERE IS MUCH TO LEARN,
AS YOUR PATH BEGINS TO WIND i'LL HELP TO GUIDE YOUR TURNS.
I can't dry every tear or cushion every stumble,
for in life you'll grow strong with each & every tumble.
But I WILL KEEP YOU SAFE, PROTECT YOU FROM HARM'S WAY,
AS YOUR LOVED ONE'S ASK, EACH TIME THEY QUIETLY PRAY.
AND ON A RARE occasion, look up you will see,
I'll be dancing on the wall, your smiles will be for me.
You alone can see me, and only for awhile,
but know as long as you dwell on earth
you'll be my guardian child. © Julie Povolny
