Standing alone,
not tall not proud
Just shy of importance
just a face lost in the crowd

The desserted highway
of lost hope and dreams
fear and pain are rebounding
no one hears my screams

confined to a life I didn't choose
bound by a child-like need
to be in contact and to be loved
it hurts too much to be freed

and life is what we make it
but some is never planned
they say we need each other
to take us by the hand

I can't do this alone
but I guess I have to try
a one way street is where I'm headed
so alone with no tears to cry

I don't know what I want
or even what I need
I guess it doesn't matter now
for I must take the lead

To be alone
not tall not proud
Just shy of importance
just a face lost in the crowd

This has a kind of beauty to me. That beauty is in the lines: "I can't do this alone/but I guess I have to try," and "I don't know what I want/or even what I need/I guess it doesn't matter now" . . . those lines have a wounded strength in them. Your title is immense. ~~ Diana
