We all have times that we wish we were in someone else's shoes, but until you have walked in their shoes be careful what you wish for

The Corner

By April Sims © 2006

Itís only a matter of time

Before me and my babies

Are out on the street

Walking around in our bare feet

Rummaging through the trash

Looking for just a little bite to eat

They have programs for the rich

And programs for the poor

But what about people like me

Working 9-5 every day

Trying to make the ends meet

Trying to stay above water

So we wonít drown

Trying to stay above the table

As long as we are able

If things keep going this way

I might have to stray

Oh Lord please hold me

And comfort me

Please shelter me

And deliver me

So I can continue to walk

As you want me to walk

And talk as you want me to talk

So I will continue to do things legally

And not make you drop your head

And be ashamed of me

Its so hard Lord . . . itís so hard

I keep having these dreams

About sitting in a corner

Like Little Jack Horner

But instead of sticking my thumb in a pie

I am dreaming of slitting my wrists

And letting the warm liquid stream

Under I am bone dry

Sometimes dream of calling a hit man

To knock me off

Because I am worth more monetarily

To my offspring

Than alive

But with the luck I have

I would probably be maimed and survive

And add one more thing to the suffering pot

I know we are all here for a purpose dear Lord

So I will continue to strive

But it is so hard when Mr Deívil keeps calling

I think he smells that I am growing weak

Because every time I take a peek

At my caller id

It is him again

Calling me

Leaving me messages

That are getting harder and harder

To resist

Telling me I can seal our fabulous deal

With just a little kiss

Lord he tells me that I will no longer be

Insane in my membrane

He tells me I will no longer have to reach

For medicine to cure my migraine

Caused by unwanted baggage

Dropped off at the doorstep of my brain

Which is slowly driving me insane

Bringing me more often

Back to this corner

Wow! You've penned a write that runs deep with emotions and truth. We too have been near rock bottom before, drowning with the financial worries of this world, beans and potatoes every night, doing without so our kids could have more to eat, selling items that we thought we never would, but press on...pray on...I did find just when I thought I would go under for the third time, the Lord moved in a miraculous way...I am still amazed twenty two years later! Never look back, never give up! You've captured the emotions and reality well my friend, a great write about a look at reality!

You speak the truth in your words; and I am sorry you are struggling. I am too; can't work anymore due to health problems; am 100% disabled, trying to get on SSI which is a joke. Still, I'm not giving up; I have the love of friends, family, and church to sustain me; I am not doing as bad as most. I consider myself blessed! Powerful write; you are in my prayers, April!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :(

April, you show that your poem was written in 2006, and I can only pray that you have surpassed the problems dealt with at that time.

You've written a poem brimming with pain and deep meloncholy that many of us can identify with at some point in our lives. Those obstacles are mere road-blocks you have to go under, around, or over, and you can do it if you set your heart to it. No one ever said life would be easy, but God gives each of us challenges we must take while striving to always do our best. Call upon His strength.

Deep pain in your words: the struggle to just survive...I know it well. Has the journey, the sadness, the pain, been worth it? I say, "Yes." Others have it so much worse: 'there, but for the Grace of God, go I.' Powerful write, realistically expressed.

(((((HUGS))))) and love, Karla.
