Listening being the first of the four disciplines of studies. It is the door that allows the other forms of disciplines to enter the inquiry mind

Listen with memories unfurled from sleep
Like raw conch of shell picked up from the sea;
Secrets long stored - now awakening
With eager wings - prepared in the quietness
Of the night to flutter and to breathe still.
Listen with wings of attentiveness, joy
Feeds passion to the wind, it is the dough
That ascends our confessed love - be it loving
Or inviolated; or for the footprints
Hardly etched on the shore, we cast our doubt?
Listen again, still without presumption -
The shape of sound becomes a toll. Let strain
Be washed off the chins of our mutual fear
And each story be heard twice, lest in vain.
